STARTUPS FIGHTING AGAINST ENVIRONMENTAL POLLUTION

Everyone are well aware of the environment impact with plastic, everyone want to be responsible, but it's hard to change habits and let-go profit. Take toys as an example, 90% of the toy market are still made of plastic. Hasbro announced that they are actively looking for alternative material, Lego also announced that they will develop their building blocks with sustainable plant-based plastic. But as we all know, these are just another typical PR strategy, without concrete action.

Plastic facts:

1. Plastic essentially never decomposes (well, some scientist predict 400 years..), and therefore will probably outlast humanity for sure.

2. Its predicted by 2050, the mass of plastic in the ocean (this doesn’t incl. Landfill) will exceed the mass of all living fishes in the ocean, and more than 100million marine animals die each year from ocean plastic ingestion or entanglement in marine debris.

3. Again, as predicted by 2050, the mass of plastic in the landfill will exceed the mass of about 20,000 Burj Khalifa!! that’s like 12 billion metric tones..

Stop and think again, profit or sustainability?

In 2019, Zonsen - a manufacturer which had always been focusing only on carton packaging had taken a bold step to enter the retail industry. Partnering with various designers to develop 3R toys (Reduce, Reuse and Recycle), under the brand RegoAto. The ultimate goal is simple, to set as example, pushing the boundaries and raising the bar against big companies such as Lego, Hasbro and Mattel which majority of the toys are made of plastics. Toys can always be still fun, across all ages without the need of only plastics.

It’s time we take a bold step and make a change. We are unable to influence these big companies, but we can start from ourselves and set as example. We need to rethink not only the products we buy, but the whole impact of the value chain impact to the environment. Sustainability is the future for our children, let’s stop the talking and take action!
